Introducing Julie and Alice

Meet Alice. This lively little girl is five years old and used to show very little interest in reading. Her mum Julie tried to encourage her to learn to read before she started school but found it impossible.

Julie thought that Alice was progressing with her reading at school. In fact, although Alice had no special educational needs, she had been struggling with her reading and was falling behind her classmates with her literacy skills.

“It came as a big shock when Alice’s teacher told me that she was having special one-to-one reading sessions and was in the lowest reading group at school,” admitted Julie.

“I always knew that she found it hard to concentrate but this was becoming a real problem.”
